The nights are drawing in and Christmas is on its way. There’s a chill in the air and at times snow on the ground. While sunbathing and picnics might not be the best choice, there are still plenty of things to do here at Ardanaiseig and we’ve put together a list of our top five things to make your winter break a memorable one for all the right reasons.
Number One: Visit the local scenic, historical, and culture attractions
With summer’s tourist season far behind us, now is a good time to see the local sights without the hustle and bustle of the year’s busier times. Kilchurn Castle is a short drive away, as is the beautiful harbor town of Oban, where you can catch ferries to many of the islands. Find out more here and use Ardanaiseig as a base to explore Argyll.
Number Two: Take a wintery walk
Wrap yourself up in a cosy jacket and don a sturdy pair of boots, and you’ll be ready to go exploring. Around Ardanaiseig, the grounds are quiet and many of the plants are waiting for spring to bring them forth once more. But there are still some beautiful sights to see. At this time of year, the peaks of the surrounding mountains, including Munros Ben Cruachan and Ben Lui, are usually covered in snow, making for a festive and photogenic Highland view. If you want to enjoy the beauty of the season, this is the place to look.
There is also still plenty of wildlife around, including roe, red and sika deer, as well as pine martens – one of which was recently seen being chased through the woods by a wild cat.
Number Three: Cosy up with a good book
Once you’ve enjoyed a walk in the fresh, bracing air, it’s the perfect time to settle down with a good book. We have a selection of interesting reads in our bar and newspapers in our drawing room, so you can cosy up in front of one of our fireplaces for some well-deserved relaxation. After all, that’s what holidays are all about!
Number Four: Enjoy a gourmet meal in the restaurant
Our experienced chefs serve seasonal, Scottish food and we’re proud to say we have 3 AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. From a full Scottish breakfast to welcome the day and a luxurious Afternoon tea, to our varied à la carte dinner menu, we have an array of tasty options. And if you’re in the mood to push the boat out, we’ve got an exciting tasting menu as well.
Number Five: Spend a relaxing evening in the bar
With a selection of fine wines, artisan beers, aged whiskys, fun mocktails and tasty teas, Ardanaiseig’s bar has something for everyone. Enjoy a tipple, along with some tasty olives and nuts while you browse our dinner menu.
